THE Brecon AC/Brecon Rotary Club 3,4,5 mile road series draws to an exciting close this week having seen record entries for the 3 and 4 mile races.
The junior 1.5-mile runs have also seen numbers up to almost 50 on each occasion.
The 4 mile race two weeks ago was won by Welsh international Dan Bodman (Aberdare) in a swift 20.53. In second was Oliver Williams of Les Croupier (21.09) who is leading the series by virtue of this result and his 3rd place in the 3 miler behind Adam Bull (Aberdare, 14.59) and Phillip Matthews (Swansea, 15.03). Bodman, Bull and Matthews have only competed once. Williams is in a great position although the series prizes are decided on cumulative times rather than the customary positions and someone could come out of the pack to claim the crown.
In first place currently in the womens sections is Wendy Price who has finished 24th and 18th respectively. Recent Welsh international Lauren Cooper of Park Bryn Bach had a fantastic performance in the 4 miler coming in 11th in 24.06 but unfortunately did not toe the line for the 3 miler so cannot win a series prize.
Other notable performers are Builth’s Tim Iveson in 3rd overall and Brecon AC’s Brychan Price-Davies 4th at 16 years old.
The end of season prizes are awarded to the top 3 in each age group from U20 to O60 male and female and cash prizes for the top 3 M/F overall irrespective of age group. The club have been able to maintain such a generous prize list due to the excellent sponsorship of Brecon Rotary club for the second successive year.
The junior 1.5 mile fun run series has been split into Primary and Secondary school categories this year for the first time although all run together. Leading the primary section having won both races so far is year 6 pupil Jack Organ who is just ahead of Year 9 pupil Tiegan Ward who has been close on the heels of the lads with a 2nd and 3rd place finish and has a comprehensive lead in the girls section. Other youngsters who have finished highly are Scott Price, Patrick Morgan, Owen Griffiths and Isabel Brassington.
