Sport Science students get top marks

By Brecon and Radnor Reporter in Other Sports

SPORT science students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Science at the Brecon Beacons campus of NPTC College of Colleges, have achieved outstanding results to complete their two year course which is the equivalent to taking three A Levels.

All twelve learners passed and there were some notable individual results.

Local Brecon boys Alex John, Carl Leeton, Charlie and Aaron Mills all gained triple distinctions which is equal to achieving three A’s at A level.

Alex has secured a place at Swansea University to study sports management whilst Carl is going to the University of South Wales to study strength and conditioning.

The Mills brothers are returning to college to start an HND in Sports Coaching & Development.

Mac Williams and Dan Jones (Builth Wells) also achieved triple distinctions and they go to Cardiff Metropolitan University to study Sports Coaching and the University of South Wales to study strength and conditioning respectively.

Zoe Price gained DMM and heads off to Worcester University to study Counselling and Psychology.

Other students Danielle Clarke (Bronllys), Callum Richards (Talgarth), Kyle Harding (Talgarth) and Ashley Davies (Newbridge-on-Wye) also return to the college to study the HND sports degree.

Finally, Alex Morgan starts a sports coaching apprenticeship in Wiltshire after achieving excellent results.

These students have truly been inspirational in their academic studies and also in their coaching prowess in the community. They have all taken the opportunities to coach in the community, organised by the college, with both hands, and have developed into quality leaders. They have helped and coached at a number of sports tournaments, activity days, primary schools and athletic events.

During these, they dealt with all matters in a highly professional and efficient way, and demonstrated a great ability to communicate with both children and adults in a way that won their trust and respect. This has certainly strengthened the interaction between the college and the community so far that a new Student Volunteer Model is being set up between Brecon Beacons College and Sport Powys.
