Taster sessions help build skills for life

By Brecon and Radnor Reporter in Sailing

POWYS schools’ Llangors sailing and kayaking taster took place for the fourth year running at Llangors Sailing Club on Friday, August 4.

Sport Powys links up with Llangors Sailing Club and Canoe Wales to deliver the taster sessions to young people in the local community and pupils from Crickhowell, Brecon, Gwernyfed, Builth and Llandrindod cluster schools.

The taster caters for beginners new to the sport, providing fully inclusive sessions that aim to be fun and an introduction to the basics of water sports.

It also helps create friendships and develop social skills, whilst building confidence by giving young people the chance to try non-traditional sports in a fantastic outdoors environment and local clubs.

Nicola Jones, community sports development officer for Powys, said: “We would like to thank the many volunteers that made the day possible and such a huge success. We look forward to next year for more fun and excitement.”
