St. David's Church in Llanfaes is holding a candle vigil this evening to mark one year since the war in Ukraine began.

The service is taking place at 6.30pm and the church have said that everyone is welcome.

Rev Rich Wooten said: “This is a great opportunity to bring people together, to mark the one year anniversary, that no one expected we would have to.

I have worked a lot with the Ukranian community over the last year, and I consulted with them and it (the service) is something that they were interested in.”

Rev. Rich Wooten also told the Brecon & Radnor Express that he consulted with the Ukranian community regarding the reading he will be doing. He will be using psalm 137.

In the service, people will light candles and have a moment of reflection.

Rev. Wooten spoke about the difficulty in doing this service, he said: “I think it’s a testing day for the community really.

"It’s been difficult to get the right tone," said Rev. Wooten.

“It’s my job to try and bring people together in times of sorrow and worship, but it’s not a service that I particularly thought I’d ever have to do or want to do. It’s a strange one really.”
