A MAN has been jailed after hitting a friend in the face with a vodka bottle in a row over a woman.
Bradley Lindon Crane left friend Christopher Burrow "scared and embarrassed" after the assault, which happened after the pair had been drinking in Mr Burrow's flat.
Prosecutor Kevin Challinor told Llandrindod Wells magistrates Mr Burrow had invited the defendant to the Finch Court flat to socialise.
"The pair were drinking and talking before the defendant and a female went to the bedroom. Mr Burrow said he felt awkward and was annoyed so rang the police saying there was someone in the flat who was wanted."
The court heard how the defendant had come out of the bedroom and picked up an empty vodka bottle and hit the victim three times to the head. Mr Burrow was unable to defend himself as he was lying on the sofa.
Gareth Walters, defending the 30-year-old of Brynmorfa, Llandrindod Wells, said: "There are clearly issues here that need addressing. He has hit someone with a bottle for no reason."
Mr Walters told the court that the defendant was unrepresented during interview but when asked why he had done it by the officers he said "it's too complicated to explain".
He said: "The incident seems to have happened over a girl, the ex-partner of the complainant, so this may go someway to explaining the incident."
Magistrates' sent Crane, who admitted ABH, to prison for 26 weeks for assaulting Mr Burrow. He was also sentenced to one week custody for criminal damage to an electricity box.
He must pay £94.73 compensation to Wales and West Housing and £1,000 compensation to the victim, as well as an £80 victim surcharge.
A restraining order was put in place.
