CROWDS of people flocked to Brecon to enjoy the latest food festival in the town’s Market Hall.

Unfazed by the change in date from October, the festival goers enjoyed browsing more than 60 stalls laden with local produce.

The Brecon Food Fest, held for one day on Saturday, July 1 was sponsored by the Brecon & Radnor Express, Castell Howell Foods, the Welsh Assembly and the event organiser and manager, Andrew Powell.

Andrew used to organise the October Food Festival for the Brecon Beacons National Park, however he left the authority earlier this year.

He said: “It’s managed through a ‘not for profit’ approach and any surplus revenue is used for future events. The money received for the Brecon Food Fest is essential to support the promotion and advertising for the event as well as hiring the venue.”

The festival had everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, to meats, jams and chutneys, and even wine, chocolate and ice cream.

There was also live entertainment, which included music from the Brecon Male Voice Choir, Talgarth Male Voice Choir, Alive and Kicking Community Choir, Brecon Town Band and Builth Wells Ladies Choir.

Andrew said he organised the festival with the aim of not only promoting and selling regional foods but also to promote and sell Brecon as a tourist destination, encouraging guests to stay longer in the town.

Andrew said he is still deciding whether the summer festival will be returning in the future or will remain as a one-off event. For more picture's from the food festival see this week's Brecon & Radnor Express – on sale now.
