An annual cycling festival will return to Builth Wells next week which will allow riders of all ages and abilities to ride laps around The Groe.

Builth Bike Bash will return to it’s original site at the Groe on Sunday, September 12, after a few years of taking place on other sites.

Builth Bike Bash has been running since 2011 when it was first organised to coincide with the Tour of Britain Cycle race passing though Builth.

The mid Wales event proved to be a success which is why it became an annual occasion which sees a variety of cyclists ride one mile laps which are counted.

The organisers set a distance challenge each year - this year it is to collectively ride the combined distances of the mens’ and womens’ Tours of Britain which is a huge total of 1,209 miles.

Bonna Williams, one of the organisers, said: “If you have a bike, come along to the Groe on Sunday 12th and help us reach our target, this is a friendly non-competitive event, where everyone is encouraged to have a go.”

The event is free, but cyclists need to bring their own bikes and those taking part are required to wear helmets.

The event runs from 11am to 4pm, with the first hour restricted to less confident riders, pushchairs, wheel chairs, scooters and balance bikes.

Builth Fest carnival committee will be running a bottle stall and raffle, there will be refreshments on sale, and various other cycling related activities for participants to try.
