THE Saints, Spamen, Bulls, Crows, Robins, Swifts, Drovers, the Thin Red Line and the green, white and blacks - just some of the nicknames bestowed upon sports teams from Brecon and Radnorshire.

But, do you know where any of them come from?

Llandrindod Wells Football Club are nicknamed the Spa men because of the town's historic background as a spa town, when, during the mid-18th century, the 'healing qualities' of the local spring waters attracted visitors to the area resulting in an economic boom.

The Bulls' moniker of Builth Wells RFC, meanwhile, has been around since the club was established in 1888 and has its roots in the Welsh words bu (ox) and allt (pasture) which loosely translated means cattle range or cow pasture.
