FOUR brainboxes from Llangorse Church in Wales School were the winners of the annual Black Mountains Lions Inter-Schools Quiz.

The children, all aged 10 or 11, won £300 for their school, with each team member receiving a £20 book token. They also get to keep the Inter-Schools Quiz shield, which was presented to them by members of the Black Mountains Lions, for one year.

The Black Mountains Lions have been running the Inter-Schools Quiz for the past 11 years. The youngsters, all from primary schools in the Gwernyfed cluster, were asked a variety of general knowledge questions. The competition was close but the Llangorse CiW School team held on to carry off the title.

Cheryl Hyde, from the Black Mountains Lions Club, said: “Our thanks go to the staff and pupils from all the schools that took part and to Gwernyfed High School for hosting the event every year. Congratulations also to the four winners. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”
