WITH bragging rights a stake, a large crowd turned out at Parc de Pugh on Saturday to see whether Brecon could 'do the double' over neighbours Gwernyfed.

An early sin binning for a late tackle by Josh Davies gave the visitors the upper hand and Brecon's phase play was comfortably managed by Gwernyfed's organised defence. Varied kicking from Gwernyfed's Gareth Dodds was their main tactic for securing a foothold in the Brecon half which led to a penalty at the ruck giving Gerwyn Williams the chance to put the visitors ahead, securing a 0-3 lead.

From here on Brecon piled on the pressure but errors continued to creep in to the game and with Dodds lengthy kicking, the home side found themselves retrieving the ball bak from deep positions. Backchat from the referee on numerous occasions before half time allowed the visitors to convert a simple kick to extend their lead to 0-6 at half time.

Brecon started the second half well and began attacking with more purpose and dominated territory and possession but continued mistakes enabled pressure to be relieved cheaply.

When Gwernyfed did rarely enter the Brecon half, the home side executed their best attacking move of the game which resulted in a Jake Crockett try which Gari Davies, who had set up the move, converted making the score 7-6 and giving Brecon the lead for the first time.

Brecon were then awarded a penalty after a Gwernyfed infringement at the ruck and Davies converted to extend the lead to 10-6.

There was worry for the home side faithful that Gwernyfed would sneak the win but when Gari Davies, under pressure shrugged off tacklers and executed a pinpoint kick which Jake Crockett touched down for his second try. Davies again converted making the score 17-6.

Gwernyfed's winger Andrew Hill rewarded a spirited performance by the visitors with a consolation try but Brecon were the deserved winners.
