A community interest company is looking to contract a Brecon Opportunity Officer (BOO) after it managed to secure a five thousand pound grant.

Brecon Buzz Directors said they are “delighted” to have secured the £5,000 grant, which has been awarded by the Sustainable Development Fund from the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, to contract a BOO to undertake a Review of Brecon Signage, Welcome and Visitor Information.

Brecon Buzz is a Community Interest Company that was incorporated in January 2021 with one of the core objectives being to make more of Brecon’s assets both for the community and visitors.

The Brecon Buzz Directors are all business owners in Brecon and spend much of their time talking to people about how to get to different places and letting visitors know what the town has to offer. The review will tick off many of the actions highlighted as being needed in different sections of the Brecon 2020 town plan regarding how people are welcomed to Brecon, follow signs around town and how they discover walks and places of interest.

The review will lay the ground work for applications in 2022 to fund welcome banners, street and pedestrian signage as well as new information boards across the town with ideas for walking, the history of the town and where to visit.

Brecon Buzz are seeking applications for the short term role to start immediately and all enquiries should be sent by email to [email protected]. Alternatively Leigh Hendra of The Hours Bookshop, Punch Maughan of Found Gallery or Sue Phair at Ty Cariad will be happy to talk informally about the project. The deadline for applications is Monday, October 18.
