Stakeholders and supporters of Brecon Jazz Festival have announced that a more intimate event - Brecon Jazz Weekend 2016 – will take place this summer from August 12-14.

Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon Guildhall, Castle Hotel, Brecon Cathedral and The Muse will present more than 20 concerts over the weekend. From cosy gigs to big bands, from a young musicians’ showcase to late-night jam sessions, the programme promises something for all jazz fans.

On Friday, the festival begins with a reception and jazz busking at Theatr Brycheiniog and an exhibition opening at the Guildhall. Later in the evening, The Castle Hotel and Brecon Jazz Club present a big band with vocals and dancing to launch the concert programme.

Saturday will see day one of the Young Musicians’ Showcase (working title) and street theatre at Theatr Brycheiniog with workshops and more street entertainment plus headline concerts at Brecon Cathedral, the Guildhall and the theatre. Sunday highlights include the morning jazz service, the climax of the Young Musicians’ Showcase and headline concerts at the Cathedral and Guildhall.

There will be street entertainment and activities in Bethel Square, a ‘Food Feast’ next to the Wellington Monument and Brecon Farmers’ Market at the Market Hall. In addition, Brecon Fringe Festival will ensure there is music for every taste in scores of different venues across the town.

A working group comprising representatives from Friends of Brecon Jazz, Brecon Jazz Club, Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon Chamber Of Trade, Brecon Cathedral, Brecon Guildhall, LASTMARK Promotions, Brecon Town Council and Brecon Fringe Festival has established a partnership model to deliver music event of quality and vibrancy this year.

A spokesperson said: "Some elements of the programme are still reliant on funding bids but the working group will be in a position to make further programme announcements very, very soon." Brecon Jazz Weekend 2016 is supported by Brecon Beacons National Park through its Sustainable Development Fund and Brecon Town Council.
