Brecon is set to host its annual Pride celebration on Saturday, July 26.

This grassroots event is now in its third year and has become a registered charity after the reins were handed over from Brecon Town Council at the end of last year’s event, and it continues to grow in significance for the local LGBTQIA+ community and its allies.

With support from Brecon Town Council, Green Man Trust, Welsh Government, and money raised through several fundraising events organised by the Brecon Pride Team, this year’s programme includes a town-centre parade, live performances from LGBTQIA+ artists, drag acts and local community groups, and plenty of food, drink and artisan stalls. There are also two stages this year, with the addition of a circus rig with aerial performances.

“It’s more than just a day out, though”, explained Michael Price, Chair of Brecon Pride.

“We know that for some people, this might be the first time they’ve ever felt safe to be themselves in public. That’s why Pride here really matters. It’s not just about rainbow flags, music, and dancing. It’s about community, visibility, and support, especially at a time when the rights, identities and safety of LGBTQIA+ people both in the UK and overseas continue to be threatened.”

Everybody is welcome to attend, and entry is free.

The day starts with the parade leaving Dinas Road at 11:30am, led by Mayor Cllr Marie Matthews. It will then lead to the King George V Playing Fields by Theatr Brychieniog, where hosts Parus Major & Star La Palooza introduce a day of live performances from 12 midday to 7pm. The fun then continues late into the night at The Wellington Hotel, with the Brecon Pride After Party starting at 8:30pm and featuring adult-only acts, including burlesque performances, drag, and a DJ.
