Residents of Pendre Close in Brecon have criticised a new building near their homes, which they believe does not match the original plans published.

Brecon residents Christine Brailey and Jane Jones as well as some of their neighbours have raised their concerns with Bannau Brycheiniog National Park saying the new building is larger originally permitted, with the building dominating the skyline above their gardens. They are concerned about the use of the building after it was originally proposed as a hobbies / activity room, as they now believe what has been built is a two-storey building that could be used as accommodation in the future.

Residents also express concern over headges and trees they says have been either removed or cut back to accommodate the structure.

Christine Brailey said: “The National Park in all their wisdom, has let someone behind us build a two story house.

“We had letters telling us it was going to be a games room, and there was objections but they just pushed them aside.

“We’ve been fighting the park since May. They won’t answer us, they won’t answer the MP, they won’t answer the councillors. I don’t know how the people building the structure have got planning permission.”

After emailing to planning officers and speaking to councillors and politicians, the residents believe their concerns have not been taken seriously and that the National Park has not completed formal processes regarding these objections.

A spokesperson for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park said: “The National Park Authority receives a large number of inquiries on planning enforcement matters, which it aims to investigate and respond to in line with its Planning Enforcement Charter. We are aware of the complaints regarding the building at Pendre Close and are currently in dialogue with the residents concerned.

“We take all enforcement matters seriously and assess each case.”
