Brecon Rotary has kindly donated 50 teddy bears to bring a smile to children’s faces at Breconshire War Memorial Hospital.

The teddies will be given out to children who visit the hospital’s Minor Injury Service, with the hope they will bring a smile to their faces during what might be a frightening experience for a young child and to help provide much-needed comfort to the young patients.

Anne Ingham, Brecon Rotary got the inspiration for the project when her own grandson had to attend hospital.

“My 3-year-old grandson needed stiches in his chin after falling over,” she explained.

“He was understandably very upset, but the staff in his local Minor Injury Unit in Oxfordshire were wonderful. They sorted him out and stopped his tears by giving him a little teddy bear to hug. It is such a good idea as it gives instant comfort.”

Brecon Rotary would like to extend thanks to Zoe Meadows, Meadow Makes, Brecon who provided the printing free of charge and to Advanced Business Brokers for sponsoring the project.

Laura East, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Powys Teaching Health Board thanked the Rotary Club for its donation.

“We are so grateful as a unit and are touched by the very thoughtful gesture,” she said.

“We know they will bring comfort to our little ones, and a little something to give them for distraction, comfort, and memory is lovely. Thank you all! “
