A Brecon woman is preparing to run the London Marathon next month in aid of a cancer charity close to her heart.
Penny Maisey will run the 26.2-mile race in October to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.
The UK charity, which provides research and care for people affected by breast cancer, is particularly important to Penny.
“Three of my close friends have survived breast cancer, partly thanks to the research funded by Breast Cancer Now,” she said. “They are my inspiration.”
The keen runner is no stranger to a charitable act, after running a ‘virtual’ marathon almost two years ago. Following a rain-soaked race from Gotyre Wharf to Brecon, Penny raised thousands of pounds for the breast cancer charity - and is ready to do it all over again.
“I’m looking forward to finally running this iconic race in London,” she said. “Any donations will be greatly appreciated because it really is a worthwhile cause - help me make the miles matter.”
Penny will be selling ribbon pin badges in Morrisons Brecon on Friday, September 30.
She also has a JustGiving page (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/penny-maisey3) where you can donate, and is hoping to raise £2,000 for the charity.
