A BROKEN down bus caused long traffic delays in Brecon during the evening rush hour.

The T6 bus service had broken down on Llanfaes Bridge, Bridge Street on Friday afternoon.

Commuters reported delays of up to an hour on what is the main route, from the south and west, into Brecon town centre.

It is unclear if the bus was carrying passengers at the time it broke down.

The electronic information on the front of the bus said it was headed for Ystradgynlais onto Swansea, however it was travelling towards the centre of Brecon at the time it broke down.

The bus is part of the Welsh Government’s Traws Cymru long distance service and is operated by Cardiff-based NAT Group.

The only information issued by the company was through its Twitter account. At 4.36pm the company tweeted the T6 bus was delayed to traffic congestion in Brecon. The T6 service also leaves Brecon crossing Llanfaes Bridge in the opposite lane to the one which was blocked by its bus.

NAT Group said on Twitter: "#Swansea / #Powys - Due to congestion, we are currently experiencing delays to the T6 services departing Brecon. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, we will be with you as soon as we can."

A recovery vehicle had arrived by 5.30pm.
