Welsh Conservatives have called for parents to be allowed to attend school sports days.

Many parents have expressed anger over being refused entry to school sports days while restrictions are eased in other areas of society.

Shadow Education Minister, Laura Anne Jones, has called for ’common sense’ to be applied, and for the Welsh Government to provide stronger guidance to schools and local authorities.

She said: "School sports days are some of the most special experiences a parent can share with a child, and it’s sad to see a lack of consistency in the current restrictions is preventing this from taking place this summer.

"With the vaccination programme in Wales going from strength to strength, and restrictions being eased in other areas, some common sense should be applied for what are safe, outdoor events.

"Whilst it is too late for many parents, grandparents and carers who have missed this special day, the Welsh Labour Government must urgently provide stronger guidance to schools and local authorities so some parents can cheer on and support their children this summer."
