Staff from a Welsh care provider are helping to knead out lonliness this Christmas by baking a variety of delicious treats.
Abacare, which has offices in Ystradgynlais and Newtown, is supporting The Great Christmas Get Together’s #MincePieMoments campaign which was created by the Jo Cox Foundation.
The campaign is encouraging Powys residents, as well as the carers, to bake or buy mince pies for their elderly neighbours and friends.
The registered manager of Abacare Sam Evans said: "We do everything we can to tackle social isolation and loneliness within Wales and when we heard about The Great Christmas Get Together’s #MincePieMoments campaign, we thought it would be great to encourage people to get involved and even get our carers in on the action too.
"Many of them will be baking their own mince pies and other treats for service users and their families and neighbours in an effort to spread good cheer and brighten people’s day and we’ll be getting involved on social media with #MincePieMoments on our Twitter page and Facebook page."
The Great Get Together was inspired by MP Jo Cox who was murdered in June of last year.
The get together’s community events are part of a campaign run by the Jo Cox Foundation which celebrates the MP’s life while working to promote topics she was passionate about.
In June 2017 it organised the biggest neighbourhood celebrations since the Jubilee street parties including leaving stickets and leaflets in random public locations like trainstations.
After great success in June, the foundation decided to run The Great Christmas Get Together
