Would you like to get together with people in your local community, practise sewing, and help to reduce plastic use? If so, come and make some morsbags!

Morsbags are shopping bags made from fabric, such as curtains and duvet covers, that might otherwise end up in landfill. The resulting bags are given away for free as a way of encouraging people to not use plastic bags. More than 295 thousand morsbags are now being used worldwide, replacing more than 150 million plastic bags. Morsbags are simple to make, and are excellent projects for anyone wanting to practice using a sewing machine.

The next morsbag-making gathering will be held at the Hive (the old Worth Your Salt building), South Crescent, Llandrindod on Wednesday, August 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. All are welcome! All materials are provided, and the Hive contains several sewing machines that anyone can use (or bring your own).

This morsbag group is one of the projects organised by Trawsnewid Llandrindod Transition, which is part of the Transition Network, a worldwide organisation of people who want to do something practical locally to reduce our impact on the environment in the face of climate change and diminishing resources. The group focuses on practical local actions which are fun and rewarding to do as well as bringing longer-term benefits, with the aim of helping Llandrindod make the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable and ethical future. The group runs various local projects including the Repair Cafe, Incredible Edible Llandrindod and the Pomarium.
