A DRINKER assaulted after intervening in an argument between two women in a Brecon pub has been awarded more than £1,600 compensation.

Richard Jason Samuel was floored by one punch from 26-year-old Cyle Griffiths Jones, the boyfriend of one of the women involved in the argument at the Sarah Siddons pub in Brecon town centre.

Jones, of High Street, Merthyr Tydfil, was convicted of assault by magistrates in Brecon, who as well as ordering him to pay compensation to Mr Samuel, handed him an 18 week jail sentence - which they agreed to suspend for 12 months.

Jones, who works in Brecon, must also carry out 250 hours unpaid work and will be supervised by the probation service for the next 12 months.
