IT IS Carnival Day in Llandrindod Wells on Saturday, July 1. The day starts at around 12 noon with the gathering of the entries of the floats, adult and childrens fancy dress in Powys County Hall staff car park.

Float, children and adult fancy dress entries all judged from 12.15 onwards – with cash prizes, certificates, medals and rosettes to be awarded. This year we are proud to announce the first awarding of the Gordon Phillips Cup for the Best Float. The cup has been donated by Llandrindod’s mayor Cllr Jon Williams, in honour of Gordon Phillips, a local man whose dedication to the carnival and other town events is legendary. In the children’s competitions there is a new category this year of best buggy/pram.

Following the judging the parade will tour the town, starting at 1pm and taking in the local hospital before returning via Station Crescent and Midleton Street and ending up back on the Temple Green.

After the parade Carnival Queen Jess Vellacott will be crowned at the bandstand by the mayor and his wife Jo. This will be followed by the awarding of prizes for the floats and fancy dress entrants.

The afternoon’s events will be followed by an evening of fun, music and entertainment on Temple Gardens. We have Merion Owen and the Quack Pack to thrill you as well as other acts. There is also the music stage show and by the bandstand as well as stalls, zumba, donkey rides, bouncy castles and games, food and drink.

We also have our famous lorry pull on Middleton Street towards the end of the afternoon followed by live music from Charlotte’s Web on the bandstand and at 9pm by the ‘Decadence’ disco. To book a float contact Michael Gough on 822052.
