Presteigne has a new defibrillator after a joint fundraising effort by local charities and the town council.
The defibrillator, which is located on Broad Street in the centre of Presteigne, has been installed after organisations came together to raise the funds necessary for the life-saving piece of equipment, through weekly raffles and donations.
“We’re delighted to have been able to provide such an important piece of equipment in the middle of our town,” said Presteigne and Norton Mayor Colin Kirkby.
“In addition to those who have donated so generously towards the cost of the debrillator, we are also grateful to Lorna Perks from Lorna’s Sandwich Shop for allowing the equipment to be installed on the wall of her property.
“It is one of those instances where you hope the defibrillator never has to be used but it’s reassuring that it is there if required,” he added.
The Royal Oak contributed to the costs through their weekly meat raffle that raises money for a range of causes around the town, while Presteigne Golf Society was also among the donors.
“The society is very happy to support the project and it’s good that the defibrillator is in such a prominent position in the town,” said Golf Society secretary, Tim Sanders. A number of different groups and individuals have come together to help fund the equipment so it’s obvious it’s a project that has struck a chord with a wide range of people,” he added.
Among others to have made contributions were the Community Cafe and Guy Richards as well as the Town Council and the Mayor from his annual allowance.
