A local DJ is holding a 24-hour disco next month in a bid to raise as much money as possible to help a very important charity.
Max Walker is hoping his live set, which will be broadcasted live from The Globe in Hay, will drum up enough money so Helping our Homeless Wales can buy a new van.
DJ Max, also known as DJ Max Galactic, explained: “The charity have recently had a problem with their van, which needs to be replaced, and they need to find £3,500 to pay for this.
“I am aiming to raise this for them by doing a 24-hour non-stop DJ set which will air from 8pm on Friday, February 5 through to the same time on the Saturday night.
“Rather than at our house, this time we will be live from the kitchen in The Globe in Hay.”
Max, from Hay-on-Wye, said: “During the 24-hours I will be mixing things up and playing different styles of music to keep it fresh alongside my usual soul, disco and club classics.
“For example, on the Saturday morning from 8am until 9am it will be ‘Reggae Brekky’ and between 10am and 11am it is kids request hour, where kids can message me and choose a track and get a shout out from me.
“For anyone who is up and about early on the Saturday morning I will be hosting a birthday party for someone who will be watching from over in Fiji, where it will be night time.”
Max is no stranger to holding virtual discos, having staged many from his kitchen throughout 2020 and raising around £3,000 for a string of charities in the process.
He started streaming his Saturday night parties on Facebook and Mixcloud with thousands of people logging on to watch.
Max has also held online bespoke parties for Hay Festival and How The Light Gets In as part of their digital festivals.
One review of Max’s parties said: “How The Light Gets In just wouldn’t be the same without our resident DJ Max Galactic and his kitchen raves.
“Bringing together the most diverse audience we have ever had every set is full of energy and amazing music.
“We have had lots of feedback saying the disco tent was the highlight of the virtual event, we can’t wait to see what you come up with next.”
Another said: “We have loved dancing in our living room to his tunes through lockdown. Can’t wait to get to one of his sets in the big, wide sociable world one day soon.”
“Max’s kitchen discos are the best thing ever,” another virtual party-goer simply said.
