PUPILS at Rhayader Church in Wales Primary School celebrated St Dwynwen’s Day on Thursday, January 25 by creating heart-shaped cards and creating love tokens.
The giving and receiving of lovespoons between lovers, friends and family on St Dwynwen’s Day is a Welsh custom that dates back to the 17th century.
St Dwynwen is the patron saint of Welsh lovers. Traditionally a lovespoon was a wooden spoon carved by a young man and presented to the woman he loved as a token of his affection.
