GOVERNORS and staff at Franksbridge County Primary School are over the moon after getting a big thumbs-up from Estyn under its new inspection system.
Welsh Government education secretary Kirsty Williams and Brecon and Radnoshire MP Chris Davies were among the first to offer their congratulations to the school which unveiled its results last Friday, as the first snow of the winter began to fall outside.
The school was graded as excellent for pupil ‘wellbeing and attitudes to learning’ and for ‘care, support and guidance’.
In every other area Franksbridge School was judged to be good, including for ‘teaching and learning experiences’ and ‘leadership and management’.
In fact the school’s results were so good head teacher Rhian Wilkie has been asked to produce a case study to “exemplify good practice in relation to developing pupils’ wellbeing, self-esteem and resilience through creative arts projects”.
In their report, the panel of three inspectors said: “The school provides an excellent variety of opportunities for pupils to develop their social, emotional and creative skills. The school’s arrangements for the wellbeing, social and cultural development of all pupils are outstanding. An excellent variety of opportunities help pupils to develop their social, emotional and creative skills to a very high standard.”
In a statement the school said: “The staff and governors are pleased with the report which recognises the children’s values and enthusiastic attitudes to learning. They would like to publicly acknowledge the dedication of staff, parents, governors and other partners. The school is extremely grateful to all our volunteers and partners for enriching the lives of our pupils and, in doing so, strengthening our community.”
