Emergency services were called to a fire which broke out at a residential property in Church Street, Hay on Wye, on Saturday afternoon.
A bystander said the fire had quickly been extinguished and she understood there had been no one inside the residential property or an adjoining commercial business when the blaze broke out.
The commercial property is the Brin & Joy Jenkins menswear retail business which was recently sold.
Signs of smoke damage around a door and window of the residential property were visible after the fire.
The bystander who works at a nearby bookshop said: "I didn’t see the blaze, but there was a fire engine, ambulance and police car outside the house when I returned from my break.
"Someone said there was no one in the house and to my knowledge no one has been hurt."
Fire crews, an ambulance and police were all in attendance at the incident, which a police spokeswoman confirmed began at about 2.40pm. She said the road was closed for about an hour and no one was reported injured.The spokesperson confirmed: "Police attended Castle Street, Hay-on-Wye, at approximately 2.40pm on Saturday (October 14) to support the fire service who were dealing with a house fire. The road was closed for around an hour for public safety. No injuries were reported. Police are not investigating any suspicious circumstances."
