A RARE night loving moth has been discovered flying around the Brecon Beacons National Park for the first time.

The Silurian moth was discovered around the Black Mountains as a result of recent moth night surveys.

Researchers from around the UK were rewarded by the sight of almost a dozen Silurian moths appearing in traps at a remote part of the Hatterrall Ridge last month.

The species was first recorded in the UK back in 1976 on a hillside in Blaeau Gwent, and this recent sighting is the first time it has been found anywhere else.
