A FAMILY from Brecon had a surprise encounter with the Prime Minister just before she flew away from the Royal Welsh Show by helicopter.

Theresa May made a flying visit to the showground at Llanelwedd for the final day of the show and as she made her way back to her helicopter, that had landed on the playing fields behind Builth Wells High School, she stopped to chat with the Coleman family from Brecon.

Mum Vicki Coleman said the PM took the time to chat to her, seven-year-old daughter Lottie and brother Riley, 11, and her mother Judy Roberts, of Builth Wells, while she grabbed a photo.

“There was security all around but they said to take the children to see the helicopter and she came over after getting out of her car and took us by surprise, it was lovely. I saw in the Brecon & Radnor Express that she was going to be at the show on Thursday and we saw the helicopter come down and I said it could be Theresa May.

“The children were more excited about the helicopter landing and when I said who could be in it they were quite interested. We were hoping to catch a glimpse of her in her car but she came over and she was charming and asked names and ages and we asked if she enjoyed the show.

“She said she really enjoyed it and what a lovely show.

“It’s not very often you get the chance to shake hands with the Prime Minister.”
