An incredible £40,040.40 has been raised in the heart of rural Wales for Cancer Research Wales and the DPJ Foundation.
In celebration of the Cnewr Estate reaching a tremendous 150th Annual Sheep Sale, the team decided to hold the bespoke fundraising event. Support was not hard to find with a raffle underway, and fundraising has taken place over the last six months.
All leading up to the final event of a charity dinner and auction held at the Fedw Equestrian Centre near Brecon.
From guessing where sheepdogs were located on pictures taken during gathering at the Cnewr Estate, to a raffle being drawn from a cement mixer, the evening offered great entertainment. The event sold out within 48 hours of its launch, with a further ten tables being added to the event list bringing over 350 people together.
James Lloyd said: “The event was tremendous and there was an extraordinary show of support from our community and further afield. Our sincere thanks goes to each and every business who supported us, donated food and sponsorship to help make the evening a success.
“The auction list was an impressive line up also and we are so grateful to every business who supported us in our attempts to raise a considerable amount for the charities.
“Finally, thanks to everyone who attended and made the evening possible. The atmosphere was incredible and it was a heartening display of how rural communities come together.”
Kate Miles DPJ Foundation said: “It was wonderful to be part of the fundraising, especially being at the culminating event where the turnout was simply outstanding. During challenging times, this sum of money to be raised is extraordinary and we are so grateful to the Cnewr team.
“This money goes towards helping those in need of mental health help and support in rural Wales and we could not offer our services without fundraising events such as this. This is not only an amazing amount raised, but also the event brought together the farming community. It is so important to have these opportunities to come together. Well done James and the Cnewr team! Diolch yn fawr iawn.”
Rhodri Davies, Head of Income Generation for Cancer Research Wales said: “We are extremely grateful to all involved for the time and effort that went into raising such a fantastic sum. Generosity is in the DNA of every one our supporters, just as research is in ours.
“Thanks to this generous donation we can support the best cancer researchers and clinicians to make discoveries that will transform lives, none of which would be possible without the support of local communities across Wales.”
