Farmers across Wales will have the chance to learn more about the new Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS) at a series of 11 roadshow events organised by the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW).
The SFS, which comes into effect on 1 January 2026, represents the most significant shift in Welsh agricultural policy in generations. The FUW roadshows aim to provide clear guidance on the scheme, including the new payment structure, eligibility criteria, and the tapering of the historic Basic Payment (BPS).
Brecon and Radnorshire farmers are invited to attend on Tuesday, September 23, at the FUW Pavilion, Builth Wells, starting at 7pm. The event will be presented by the FUW’s policy team and local county officers, offering an opportunity to ask questions, receive practical advice, and discuss the options available for entering the SFS or continuing with the BPS.
FUW President Ian Rickman said: With farmers at a crossroads, this roadshow will provide an opportunity to understand the options available to them whether they choose to enter the SFS or continue on a tapering Basic Payment. This is a chance for farmers to ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of what the future could look like for their businesses."
FUW Group Chief Executive, Guto Bebb added: "As well as focusing on the new Scheme, these events will provide an opportunity to outline the hands-on assistance our dedicated teams can offer to support farming businesses. From understanding the new rules to completing necessary paperwork, the FUW’s local offices and experienced staff puts us in a unique position to support farmers whether they opt to transition towards the SFS, or continue with a tapering BPS.”
The Brecon and Radnorshire event is part of a nationwide roadshow running from September 23 to October 16, with events across the whole of Wales.
