A McCartneys spokesperson said: “If Bluetongue Virus (BTV) rules stay as they are, unless pre-movement tested, we can only take cattle from Welsh holdings, but we can sell to both Welsh and English purchasers. We estimate about 30 per cent of our buyers are from Welsh holdings through the year. If you are a vendor with a cross-border holding, please give us a call as each case can be different.
“Our Ludlow store cattle market will give a good outlet for those from purely English holdings who don’t wish to pre-movement test for BTV. Please call any of our auctioneers for advice and updates. We will keep fighting to get these ridiculous cross-border BTV rules removed!”
