Kirsty Williams has expressed "frustration" that Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is not providing the help required to support the Meadows Surgery in Knighton, despite many of the patients registered at the surgery living across the border in England.
At a meeting last night with the GPs, Knighton Town Council and representatives of Powys Health Board and others, the Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, expressed her concern that Shropshire CCG have not opposed the principle of the closure and are causing huge uncertainty around the issue of de-registering of patients.
Ms Williams said: “The meeting was incredibly frustrating. Although the Meadows Surgery is technically a Shropshire Practice when a surgery on the border it is threatened with closure it has a major impact on patients in England and Wales, yet the Shropshire CCG have essentially washed their hands of any responsibility to patients here in Powys. They need to be providing the same support as if this was
“I have written to the Westminster Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to ask him to intervene as a matter of urgency. It is not good enough for Conservatives in Westminster to ignore Welsh border patients.”
