THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised in less than a week for a mental health charity in memory of a Brecon man.

Connor Hudson died last week and was aged just 27.

Friend Charlotte Barrell has set up the fundraising group in support of Brecon & District Mind as Connor had experienced mental health difficulties.

Brecon & District Mind supports people in the community affected by mental health issues and emotional distress. The charity has received almost £5,000 in donations online since the fundraiser was set up on Sunday, March 15.

Brecon surgery worker Charlotte said: “Connor struggled with mental health, he thought a lot of the charity Mind and fundraising for them has helped me and his family look at this a lot more positively”.

Charlotte worked with Connor, who lived in Brecon, when he was a support worker for children with autism and other learning difficulties, but she said that he worked his way up to train people in the job.

“He made an impact on so many people’s lives” said Charlotte.

She also said how thankful she is for people donating to the charity: “Everyone has been so thoughtful with their donations, I don’t know many of the people, I was expecting it to hit around £500 but we’ve already raised nearly £5,000 since setting the page up on Facebook on Sunday.

“We are going to do some physical fundraising in the summer months, when the coronavirus is less serious, to raise more money” said Charlotte.
