A Brecon business is aiming to raise £500 for flood victims in Pakistan.

The Comfort Kitchen is attempting to raise the money following the unprecedented floods that have swept the south Asian country.

It is estimated that the disaster has affected 33 million people - according to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Agency.

Gail Sequeira, who runs The Comfort Kitchen, claimed that it was the role of the entire planet to help with the crisis.

“We have one planet and we are one human race so we all have to work together as there is no one else out there that is going to help us,” said Gail.

The fundraiser is expected to generate around £500 for the flood victims through the use of traditional Pakistani take-away food.

The idea of fundraising through the medium of food is not a new one to The Comfort Kitchen - it has been doing so since the COVID - 19 pandemic.

Gail said: “We started doing this side hustle in lockdown after my dog Trixie required treatment for a rare condition.

“After Trixie recovered I just thought why not do it for some other causes?

“I have done similar fundraisers for the dog shelter we got Trixie from, Ukrainian refugees, Mind, and to support women in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.”

However, despite the good-will, Gail claims that the latest issues in Pakistan all stem from a wider humanitarian issue.

“The floods in Pakistan are just the latest example of people working against the world and themselves.

“I can’t fix any of these problems directly, all I can do is help in the only way I know how, by cooking food and telling stories.”
