THIS year saw another fantastic Libanus Show with all the classes very hotly contested.

The sheepdog trials started at 7am, and over the day 101 dogs showed their skills on the course.

Elsewhere the sheep classes were excellent with the judges unable to decide between the male and female champion to award the overall – so honours were shared by Meg Prothero and Elvet Jones.

David and Michelle Davies won all of the Herdwick cups – a breed of sheep native to the Lake District but becoming increasingly popular here.

The cookery, craft, horticulture and children’s classes were all well supported, with our cookery judge having a real challenge having to taste and judge 12 Victoria sandwich cakes and 11 different chocolate brownies – not to mention the other cakes and sweets.

Our show host, Katie Evans, won the Best in Show in the cookery with her Chelsea buns, whilst Sue Brook had that honour in the craft section.

The children’s sports were a highlight of the afternoon, along with the dog show which was its usual success. It was great to see new competitors in all classes, continuing the great tradition of the local show.

The last event was the shearing, with 17 competitors in Novice and Open section, the wool was flying off with Llewellyn Williams and Dewi Jones taking the honours.

The dedication of all the volunteers who gave up their time – whether to judge, steward, cook or generally help out – is hugely appreciated.
