Next month will see Hay Does Vintage host the eighth vintage fayre in the world famous book town.

The popular event organised by Jo Hodges fills Hay-on-Wye with fans of retro and vintage and, as with the previous fayres, the criteria for trading is tight.

"We carefully select our traders for each event to ensure our fayres have bit of something for everyone, bringing back some favourites and introducing some new ones to keep things interesting," Jo said.

"Our aim is to gain a reputation for providing a high quality fayre each time and it’s really lovely to see returning visitors that appreciate our efforts."

The fayre has over 50 traders selling a vast array of vintage and retro fashion and accessories, homewares, furniture, textiles, jewellery, china and upcycled items made from vintage originals as well as the popular flea market.

It is held in the middle of the town in three venues, the Cheesemarket, Buttermarket and a marquee in the Market Square car-park.

As with each of the fayres the town is a bustling hub of activity with even the charity shops supporting the event and remaining open for the day.

"It’s great to have the charity shops open on a Sunday. Visitors to Hay Does Vintage are very likely bargain hunters and it’s great that the shops benefit from that," Jo said. "I also appreciate the support I receive from local businesses with them all keen to promote the fayre."

Hay Does Vintage is a not-for-profit event now in its fourth year. A small door fee is charged to cover running costs. "With the small profit we’ve made over the last four years we’ve bought some Christmas lights for the town which will be unveiled later this year," Jo said.

It’s Vintage Baby takes place on July 3. Doors open 10.30am-4.30pm.
