THE resignation of two female councillors from Hay Town Council means just one of six rookie councillors elected last year survives on the authority.

Sue Campbell-Felgate and Rhona Muirhead served as town councillors for 17 months but have quit claiming the body was unwilling to accommodate new members.

They have also alleged 'rude behaviour' among council members.

The two were first elected as two of five 'new' councillors alongside six re-elected councillors at the May 2012 local government elections.

But of the intake of five 'new' councillors just one remains on the authority.

Hay Mayor, Councillor Robert Golesworthy has strenuously disagreed that the council has a culture of being 'closing' to newcomers but has admitted things have been said in the council chamber 'that should not have been said'.
