Earlier this month more than 50 Brecon people met in the Guildhall for a coffee morning with a big difference.
They were welcomed by a team of scientists and researchers from Cancer Research Wales.
The Science Café event, which was hosted in conjunction with the charity’s Brecon and Sennybridge Committee, was an opportunity for people to learn about world-class cancer research taking place in Wales and to get hands-on with exhibits.

One of the most popular exhibits included a giant inflatable bowel, which graphically demonstrated the processes that take place in the organ.
Other exhibits and games gave hands-on opportunities to learn about the life-changing discoveries Wales’ leading cancer researchers are making to treat people affected by various cancers across the country.
Those attending enjoyed interesting talks by Dr Lee Campbell, Dr Pam Smith and Professor Andy Tee, who then met the audience and answered questions. Talk topics included the TIC-TOC project - a new cancer awareness campaign that is being trialled to optimise cancer awareness in deprived communities in Wales, and work focused on how cellular signalling influences cancer biology.

Coffee, tea and biscuits were then served by the Brecon and Sennybridge Committee of Cancer Research Wales and the researchers commented that their work is made possible thanks to the supporters of this charity. All money raised in Wales is spent on research in Wales.
Cancer Research Wales and the Brecon and Sennybridge Committee would like to thank Brecon Mayor, Cllr David Meredith, for the use of the Guild Hall.
The Grand Annual Quiz and supper will again be hosted by the Committee on Friday, November 11 in Llangorse Village Hall. Doors open at 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start.
