A HELICOPTER has been drafted in to fight a grass fire in the Brecon Beacons National Park that has been burning since Sunday.

Crews have been battling a grass fire that threatened a site of special scientific interest at Mynydd Troed, near Llangors, in the Black Mountains.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been assisted by local farmers and graziers in tackling the fire before the helicopter was called in to scoop water from Llangors Lake to dump on the fire.

The fire service confirmed it first attended the fire just after midday on Sunday, July 15 and crews were called back out on Tuesday morning, July 17, having battled throughout Sunday and Monday.

Bryan Davies, watch manager at Talgarth Fire Station, said he had never before seen the side of the mountain facing Llangors Lake on fire.
