Hundreds of campers who attended the Volksfest Wales event at Brecon’s Watton showfields were packing their tents into their VW camper vans on Sunday afternoon after the weekend event drew to a close.

The mixed weather failed to dampen the spirits of many who attended and children in particular were well catered for with a variety of events including a giant inflatable helter skelter, circus skills workshops and magic shows, zorbs and an It’s a Knockout event. In the evening the adults were able to enjoy live music on a stage, including The Untouchables, while their were more than 50 trade stands to enjoy and a Show and Shine car show on Sunday afternoon.

However the key part of Volksfest, as always, was the chance for VW camper van owners and VW Beetle owners to get together and discuss the merits of their favourite mode of transport.

Besides the hundreds who took the opportunity to camp on the banks of the River Usk, their were also day passes for those who fancied looking in to see what all the fuss about VWs is.

Some were less than impressed with at least two posts on Volksfest Wales’ Facebook page likening the event to a "glorified car boot sale". Others felt however that they had missed the point of the event, which is the opportunity it gives for those who’ve got the Bug to get together and make new friends.
