On Wednesday 21st February a callout was made to the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team to help assist an injured man in the Elan Valley. The man slipped whilst descending Gro Hill above Caban Coch Reservoir in the Elan Valley.

The man accompanied by his wife, had spent the day enjoying a circle walk of the reservoir. As they approached the end of their walk whilst descending a greasy grass path, the man slipped causing serious injury to his upper leg, resulting in him being unable to walk.

The callout was received by members of the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team who live locally to the injured man, followed closely by other team members from further south for added support.

It was decided by the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team that due to the seriousness and remoteness of where the injury took place, a call to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter “Rescue 187” would be necessary.

The man’s wife was escorted down the hill by the team whilst the injured man was carried to the helicopter and flown to Hospital.

The Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, said, “Many thanks to Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter and a local farmer who assisted with access to the site. Wishing the gentleman a speedy recovery.”
