Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has opened its first pub in Brecon or Radnorshire at the former George Hotel in Brecon.

The company, that has spent more than £2 million refurbishing the building, has taken on more than 60 staff and has also retained the name of the hostilery.

Brecon Mayor Rose Evans and former Wales rugby international Andy Powell helped celebrate the opening of the pub by getting behind the bar and pulling a pint.

Councillor Evans said: "It is lovely to see this building open and the pub up and running."

As well as offering food and drinks the George also has four hotel bedrooms.

The pub, which is in the town centre, had been closed since shortly before Christmas 2015 and was bought by JD Wetherspoon early last year.
