Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon & Radnorshire, has welcomed plans by The Royal British Legion, BBC and other organisations to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, despite the coronavirus outbreak.

Unfortunately the originally planned commemoration ceremonies are not able to go ahead at this time, though other events have been planned for this Friday, 8th May, to take account of social distancing, including a two-minute silence across the UK and Europe at 11:00.

Commenting, Kirsty Williams said: “We face different challenges today but remembrance remains vital. We can all learn so much from the past and at a time when many people are making personal sacrifices for the greater good, it has never been more important to acknowledge and pay our respects to those who gave so much for future generations.

“Please try to take part in the VE Day Anniversary celebrations, in whatever way you can. The Royal British Legion website has recipes and activities for the day and there are great resources on the Second World War available on the Welsh Government’s Hwb digital learning platform.”
