A POWYS resident has spoken of the part he has played in a court fight with the Labour Party.
Edward Leir, from Galsbury, was one of five members who tried fighting through the courts in a bid to force the party to give all members and official supports a vote in the Jeremy Corbyn, Owen Smith leadership battle.
Though the five had won their action earlier last week at the High Court that decision was overturned on Friday when the Court of Appeal ruled Labour was within its rights to stop some new members voting in the contest.
Mr Leir, who had travelled to London to hear the judgment and was interviewed on television outside the court, described the process as "very tiring".
He said: "It was very, very tiring. I was in London for the original high court hearing, but decided to stay in Wales for the judgement in the first case and I went back for the appeal court result on Friday. It has been surreal. I feel like such a lot has happened."
However despite losing the case, which was supported by a crowd funding campaign that raised £96,000, Mr Lear said he had no regrets at taking the party to court.
Mr Leir said he decided to join Labour following the EU referendum result and said he had made no secret of the fact he’d previously been a Conservative supporter.
"I told people that on Radio 4 in my first interview. I’m 48 now and in my twenties I voted for them but in the last 10 years been really disillusioned with the Conservatives and politics in general."
