A COLLECTION of paintings by the late artist Meg Stevens has been bought by local entrepreneur Richard Griffiths.

Mr Griffiths, who grew up on a farm in Llanfrynach, will be creating a dedicated gallery for her work in the area. He still remembers Meg painting in a variety of settings and weathers, including fine detail of local landscapes and wild flowers.

Meg’s daughters, Bridget and Hannah, have been working with the Little Bird Creative in planning a series of exhibitions over the next 18 months to sell the art which includes over 400 oil paintings and around 300 watercolour paintings.

Thirty paintings from the collection have been donated to Brecknock Museum. Most of the proceeds will go to the Brecknock Wildlife Trust, a cause which both Meg and her husband Roger supported.

The Brecknock Wildlife Trust was connected with the Stevens family for over 40 years. Meg promoted the trust by holding exhibitions in Brecon Library. Clare Morgan from the Brecknock Wildlife Trust remembers when she was a child and Meg Stevens helped to move toads across the road in buckets at night.

She said: “She donated paintings to raffles to help raise funds for wildlife. Meg and her husband Roger designed a wildlife game for Brecknock Wildlife Trust which shows many local species and includes statements on how to encourage wildlife, recycling and sustainability.

“Brecknock Wildlife Trust is extremely grateful for this donation to the Trust which will assist with further work conserving wildlife in the old county of Brecknock.”

Some of her paintings will be at Nature in Art, Gloucestershire from September 5 to October 1. For more information, visit https://meg-stevens.com/exhibitions/.
