Brecon Jazz Club member, Welsh musician Lionel Davis, has made some unique material available to Brecon Jazz Club. A leading jazz double bassist in the era, Lionel played with many ‘names’, including a guest session gig with Slim Gaillard, American jazz pianist, which was recorded at the 1985 Brecon Jazz Festival.

Lionel still attends the club - he was at the ‘American Swing’ gig in the Brecon Jazz bar of Theatr Brycheiniog. He has also given a copy of the 1985 Brecon Jazz Festival flyer to the club, for which Slim Gaillard was one of the headlines. Lionel himself has also played with many UK and American jazz ‘greats’ including Tal Farlow (guitar) and Red Rodney (trumpet).

To celebrate ‘piano jazz’, Brecon Jazz Club are promoting two events in February - Saturday, February 6 at the Wellington Hotel: Mike Chappell Trio from 8pm in the bar. And at Theatr Brycheiniog on Tuesday, February 23 with Spanish pianist Juan Galiardo at 8pm.
