A MALE voice choir will be in attendance at the funeral service this weekend of a woman who played a key role in youth activities in Brecon.

Rosemary Collier, who moved away from Brecon eight years ago, will be buried alongside her husband Edgar following a service at St David’s Church, Llanfaes, on Saturday (April 21) at 1pm. She was 84 when she died.

As youth workers with the Brecon Youth Service, Rosemary and Edgar set up both a junior and a senior youth club at the Old Boys Grammar School building on Cradoc Road, offering multiple activities to the young people of Brecon.

The pair moved to Brecon with their young family in 1968. Rosemary also helped to organise the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme in Brecon, supporting weekend training sessions in the Brecon Beacons.

Rosemary and Edgar also ran a grocery shop at 6 Bridge Street, Llanfaes, for many years. After being diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2008, Rosemary moved to live with her daughter Glen Collier-McGirr before being cared for at Ashwood Care Home in Warminster.

Glen said: “My mother will be remembered as an amazing, compassionate person, with a wicked sense of humour and someone who has supported and influenced the lives of so many young people.”

Edgar was also the chairman of Aberhonnddu Male Voice Choir. To pay tribute to Rosemary and Edgar, the choir will be performing at Rosemary’s funeral service on Saturday.
