The Hundred House Village Hall Committee has paid tribute to Mervyn Price for 20 years of organising the Hundred House tractor run, presenting him with a celebratory cake at this year’s event.

This year’s run once again proved popular, attracting 91 entries from Radnorshire, Herefordshire and Shropshire. The convoy included large and small tractors, along with a number of 4x4 vehicles.

Led by Mervyn in his Fastrac, the procession travelled from Franksbridge before heading towards the Cwm and across to the Rhogo Road. The route then climbed, joining a farm track and right of way across the hills to Bwlch Llwyn.

After a short stretch of tarmac, the run continued off-road, passing the Hendy wind farm before joining the A44 at Pye Corner. The tractors then travelled along the main road before turning towards Blaen Edw and stopping for lunch at Mervyn’s home.

Following the break, the convoy continued to Brynmelys and back onto the road, before heading towards the Fedw. The route then climbed via farm tracks to Gwaunceste Hill and the Giant’s Grave, before descending back to Hundred House via Rhiew Farm.

Back at the hall, Mark Hulin-Taylor announced that £1,500 had been raised on the day for hall funds, bringing the total raised over the past 20 years to £17,500.

He thanked Mervyn for his commitment to the event, before presenting the celebratory cake.

Bouquets were also presented to June, who provides and organises the catering, and Sue, the hall committee secretary responsible for lunchtime catering, in recognition of their contribution over two decades.

Thanks were also given to the wider team of helpers, including Sue and Ivor, Graham and Sue, Dennis, Jan, Carl, Deb, Ali, Christine and Sharon, who marshalled gates and junctions or assisted with refreshments, as well as Clive, who acted as back marker.
