Mid Powys GPs are launching a campaign to highlight the significance of maintaining mental wellbeing.

As the pressures of daily life continue to grow, it is more important than ever to prioritise your mental health and seek support when needed.

Key tips for maintaining mental health:

Practice Self-Care: Engage in activities that you enjoy and that help you relax, such as reading, exercising, or spending time in nature. Self-care is essential for managing stress and maintaining a positive outlook.

Stay Connected: Maintain regular contact with friends, family, and loved ones. Social support is crucial for mental well-being, and staying connected can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Seek Professional Help: If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed, do not hesitate to seek professional help. For urgent Mental health support call 111 and press option 2.

The service is available for people of all ages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in all areas of Wales to ensure those in need of support can access it quickly when they need it most.

If you need to talk to someone urgently about your mental health, or you’re concerned about a family member, call NHS 111 and select option 2 to be placed in direct contact with a mental health worker in your area. The number is free to call from a landline or mobile, even if you have no credit left.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep are fundamental to mental health. Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood, while proper nutrition and sleep help regulate emotions.

Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Practices such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, and yoga can reduce stress and promote mental clarity. Taking time each day to relax and clear your mind can have significant benefits.

Set Realistic Goals: Setting achievable goals and breaking tasks into manageable steps can prevent feeling overwhelmed. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, to build confidence and motivation.

Recognise the Signs of Mental Health Issues: Understanding the signs of mental health issues is crucial for early intervention. Symptoms may include persistent sadness, excessive worry, changes in sleep or appetite, and withdrawal from social activities. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, it's important to seek help promptly.

"Mental health is a vital part of our overall well-being, and it's essential to address it with the same importance as physical health," said Gareth Ratcliffe PAVO Health Promotion Facilitator for Mid-PowysGPs

"Our goal is to raise awareness and provide resources to help individuals manage their mental health effectively."
